Oppenheimer, the highest-grossing biopic of all time, emerged as the big winner at the 2024 Golden Globes.
The biographical film won Best Picture, besting Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, The Zone of Interest and Anatomy of a Fall.
Director Christopher Nolan won best director for Oppenheimer — his first win in the Golden Globes after being nominated for the same category in Inception (2010) and Dunkirk (2017).
Cillian Murphy bagged his first Golden Globe award as Best Actor for Oppenheimer. The Irish actor previously won in the same category at the Dublin Film Critics’ Circle Awards, New York Film Critics Online Awards and more.
Meanwhile, Lily Gladstone bagged her first Golden Globe Best Actress Award for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is the first-ever Cinematic and Box Office Achievement winner at the Golden Globes.
In the television category, the last season of Succession garnered the most wins for this year’s edition. This includes Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
Meanwhile, Netflix’s limited comedy series Beef swept the awards ceremony, winning all its three nominations. The comedy won Best Television Limited Series, besting All the Light We Cannot See, Daisy Jones & The Six, Fargo, Fellow Travelers and Lessons in Chemistry. Meanwhile, Beef stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong both won their first Golden Globes for their performance in the series.
The ceremonies were held on 7 January (8 January Philippine Time) in Los Angeles, with Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy hosting the affair.
Going into the awards night, Barbie had led the nominations with nine in the film category, followed closely by Oppenheimer with eight. In the television category, Succession garnered nine nominations, followed by The Bear and Only Murders in the Building with five.
