Vice Ganda to make film comeback under director Jun Lana

Vice Ganda, who has dominated Philippine cinema with multiple box-office hits, is set to make a grand movie comeback with award-winning director Jun Lana.

The popular comedian was one of the special guests present at celebrity couple Gladys Reyes and Christopher Roxas’s 20th wedding anniversary on 27 January, where she confirmed that she has a new project with the director.

“Yes, oo, may project tayo with Jun Lana. With direk Jun Lana kaya nakaka-excite,” Vice Ganda said.

The phenomenal superstar is also hopeful that she can work with Reyes in the future.

“Siguro naman sa tanda natin ito, dapat meron na tayong project na magkasama talaga. Sana sa next movie ko, kung gagawa ako ng pelikula, magkasama na tayong dalawa (At our age, we should already have project together. I hope in my next movie we can work with each other),” she said to Reyes.

Vice’s movies have broken box-office records time and again. These include films like The Unkabogable Praybet Benjamin (2011), Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy (2013), Beauty and the Bestie (2015), The Super Parental Guardians (2016) and more.

Her upcoming project with Jun Lana marks her first movie after Partners in Crime, one of the official entries to the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival and the second-highest-grossing Filipino film of that year.

Lana is the director behind a string of blockbuster films like Die Beautiful (2016) and The Panti Sisters (2019) as well as critically lauded works such as Kalel, 15 (2019) and About Us But Not About Us (2023.)

Lana is also the writer behind the now classic films Jose Rizal (1998) and Muro Ami (1999), both of which won Best Original Story and Best Screenplay at the MMFF.
