Janine Gutierrez, Max Eigenmann tie for Best Actress at this year’s EDDYs

Two acclaimed actresses and two topnotch Filipino films led the roster of winners in the sixth edition of the annual EDDYs (Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards), held on the evening of 26 November at Aliw Theater in Pasay City.

The EDDYs are given by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors, whose members come from leading newspapers and top tabloids nationwide.

Heaven’s Best Entertainment’s Blue Room and CineKo Productions’ Family Matters were jointly awarded Best Picture. Both films also garnered the most number of awards.

‘Blue Room’ and ‘Family Matters’ also tie for Best Film.

Ma-an Asuncion Dagñalan’s Blue Room bagged four nods, including Best Actor (Elijah Canlas), Best Editing, Best Production Design and Best Musical Score. Meanwhile, Nuel Naval’s Family Matters brought home Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Nikki Valdez), Best Screenplay and Best Theme Song.

Nanahimik ang Gabi, which garnered the most number of nominations, finished with three awards, including Best Sound, Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Actor (Mon Confiado). Confiado previously won the same category for Mikhail Red’s Arisaka.

Two actresses tied in the Best Actress category: Janine Guiterrez, who won for her role as a deaf-mute in Real Florido’s Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin?; and Max Eigenmann, as a 40-year-old woman discovering her unexpected pregnancy in Anna Isabelle Matutina’s 12 Weeks.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Iza Calzado and Piolo Pascual, with special performances by Pops Fernandez, Darren Espanto, Erik Santos and Calista. Pascual was also one of the special Isah V. Red Award recipients, together with Coco Martin, Herbert Bautista and Rosa Rosal.

Since its inception in 2017, the EDDY Awards has been recognizing the excellent work of actors, craftsmen, writers and directors in Filipino cinema.

Niño Muhlach and Snooky Serna receive the Movie Icon Award. Accepting for Aga Muhlach is his son, Andres Muhlach.
