Earth’s cosmic companion enters new moon phase

The brightest and largest object in Earth’s night sky has just entered a new moon phase on 18 May, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said.

New moons occur when the Moon is between Earth and Sun, and the shadowed side of the Moon faces Earth.

The American space agency posted on social media a crescent moon over the horizon as seen from the International Space Station (ISS).
