Top Filipino classical singers, theater actors grace Armed Forces visit to Dapitan City

Some of the country’s top classical singers and theater actors performed during the visit of Foreign Armed Forces Attaches and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to Dapitan City on 6 to 8 October 2023.

Svetlana Jalosjos, president of Dakak Resort and Properties and a performer herself (an alumnae of the UP Concert Chorus), organized the affair, bringing the classical singers and theater actors to perform at the Rizal Shrine and for the Tourism Presentation at the Tai Grand Hall, Dakak Resort.

The performers rendered folk songs and Broadway pieces in a program that impressed and delighted the Foreign Armed Forces attaches, Armed Forces of the Philippines officials, their spouses and families, and other guests.

Among the performers were multi-awarded international crossover artist Jonathan Badon, who has performed in various diplomatic concerts all over the world; soprano and voice teacher Cynthia Culig-Guico, recipient of a 2016 Aliw Award for Best Female Classical Singer; baritone Lionel Guico, an actor and voice teacher, is a four-time Aliw Awards nominee for Best Male Classical Singer; and Mary Ann Baclao who graduated cum laude with two degrees: BM major in Music Education and BM major in Piano, both from the UST Conservatory of Music.

Jalosjos is a musical theater artist, R&B pop singer, recording artist and Dapitan’s homegrown performer. She received formal training as a member of the UP Concert Chorus for three international tours (1996-2000). She played Mimi and Maureen in Rent Singapore 2000 and Rent Manila 1999 and 2001, and Dreamgirls in 2003. She has hosted live shows like Eat Bulaga and ASAP and has released and produced recordings on Spotify, Youtube and Instagram (as LanaJdeleon).
