The 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards recognized and honored some of today’s biggest and most influential female superstars in the global music industry.
The event, which took place on 6 March at YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, California, featured a star-studded line-up of performing and non-performing honorees who have dominated the music scene in the past year.
Karol G, the artist behind such hit tunes “QLONA,” “Amargura” and “TQG,” became the first-ever Latin American to win Woman of the Year.
“It’s the most significant award or recognition that I can get in my life,” the Columbian singer said when interviewed by Billboard’s Rania Aniftos and YouTuber Lilly Singh, “I always fight a lot being a woman in this industry and to have Woman of the Year is kind of crazy, it’s a lot of responsibility…I can’t believe it, but I’m super happy that it’s a reality.”
Another music history was made when Geronimo became the first Filipina to receive the Global Force Award at the event. The hitmaker behind popular songs “Tala” and “Kilometro” shared the same award with singer-songwriters Luisa Sonza of Brazil and Annalisa of Italy.
Global K-pop stars NewJeans was hailed as the Group of the Year. Prior to performing their hit tracks “Super Shy” and “ETA” at the event, the South Korean girl group hinted at their new music and upcoming comeback.
“We can’t spoil too much, but I’m just gonna say that we’re preparing and practicing hard, and we can’t wait to share new music with everyone. So, we’re really looking forward to it,” NewJeans member Danielle said.
Grammy-nominated singer Charli XCX debuted an unreleased track called “So I” at the event as a way to commemorate her late collaborator and producer Sophie: “This song is about someone really, really special to me who is no longer with us.”
