Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney stunned and turned heads at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party when she wore the same gown Angelina Jolie debuted 20 years ago during the 76th Academy Awards.
Crafted by renowned designer Marc Bouwer, the archival silky gown in a creamy bone-white hue featured a low halter neckline, ultra-long halter straps and a sweeping fluid skirt.
On Monday, 11 March, the fashion designer wrote via Instagram: “On its 20th anniversary I couldn’t ask for a better revival.”
Following the award show, The Anyone But You star in an Instagram post, thanked Marc for “pulling this iconic dress out of the vault” for her. “It was an honor to wear a piece of history,” she shared.
Sweeney’s stylist Molly Dickson thanked Marc and fashion executive Paul Margolin for “letting into archives for this special moment.”
Mermaid recreation
Three-time Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan pulled off classic Hollywood-style in Balenciaga’s Two-Tone Mermaid Gown at the Academy Awards.
Accompanied on the carpet by musician Marcus Mumford, her husband, in an all-black suit, Mulligan stunned in a black mermaid dress with a scalloped hem over white tulle — a recreation of Cristóbal’s Mermaid dress from 1951 Balenciaga design. The 38-year-old best actress nominee for her role as Felicia Montealegre, the wife of composer Leonard Bernstein — portrayed by Bradley Cooper, complemented and accessorized her ensemble with Fred Leighton’s old mine-cut diamond earrings and elbow-length black gloves.
Classic socialite
Best Actress nominee for her role in Anatomy of a Fall and also stars in Best Picture nominee The Zone of Interest, Sandra Hüller wore a custom Schiaparelli gown reminiscent of a Gilbert Adrian design worn by American socialite and fashion icon Millicent Rogers in 1947.
During the 1940s, socialite, heiress and fashion icon Rogers was a devoted Schiaparelli client.
Sandra Hüller proved why Schiaparelli is always a good choice for the red carpet in this statement-making velvet gown by the house, which featured exaggerated straps and an intricate brooch.
Added sparkle came courtesy of Cartier. The German actor and first-time Oscar nominee wore a custom design stunning black gown with extending wings by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli.
