Liza Soberano, Ylona Garcia to attend Crunchyroll Anime Awards

Filipino entertainment personalities Liza Soberano and Ylona Garcia will be among the confirmed roster of international talents joining the Japanese stars attending the upcoming Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Japan.

The announcement was made on 14 February by the organization behind the highly anticipated awards show. The popular anime streaming service Crunchyroll recognizes and honors anime’s most outstanding series and films.

Soberano is currently receiving good reviews and social media buzz for her Hollywood debut in Zelda Willams’ horror-comedy flick, Lisa Frankenstein. The Filipino-American actress received career recognition in 2021, when she voiced Alexandra Trese in the official Filipino translation of the Netflix animated comic series Trese.

Garcia, a Pinoy Big Brother alum, is one of the artists signed up by the American-Asian international record label 88rising. She has also partnered with the popular video game Valorant.

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter revealed her favorite anime in the Anime Awards’ official account: Naruto, My Hero Academia and Kamisama Hajimemashita.

Apart from Soberano and Garcia, some of the in-show talents that will grace the awards ceremony are Megan Thee Stallion, Chiaki Kuriyama, DeMarcus Lawrence, LiSA, Iman Vellani, Joaquin Dos Santos, Labrinth, Mercedes Varnado, Rashmika Mandanna. ROLAND, So Takei, and Phil Lord & Chris Miller.

In the Anime of the Year category, six animated series have been nominated: BOCCHI THE ROCK!, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordswith Village Arc, JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2, OSHI NO KO and VINLAND SAGA SEASON 2.

The Crunchyroll Anime Awards ceremony will take place on 2 March in Tokyo, Japan, with live streaming happening on Crunchyroll’s YouTube and Twitch accounts starting at 5 p.m. Philippine time.
