TheRack.Co, the leading Strength Stuff Depot, has established itself as the go-to place for powerlifters and strength enthusiasts in a groundbreaking effort to elevate strength sports in the Philippines. The company aims to transform powerlifting into a sport that garners national pride and international acclaim.
At a press conference on Friday, 19 May, TheRack.Co unveiled its strength training studio, decked and fully equipped with impeccable engineered-equipment, the Buhat Buhat Basement, which marks a significant step forward in showcasing and discussing the achievements of the Philippines’ top performing powerlifters.
Notable athletes such as Joyce Reboton, Rafael Cahilig, Nestor Redulla Jr. and Angela Gonzalvo were singled out as shining examples of the country’s powerlifting talent.
Ken Tan, a product specialist at TheRack.Co, underlined the essence of powerlifting, its current status, and outlined the necessary steps to further develop the sport.
“Powerlifting is a different sport discipline,” Tan said.
He explained that a powerlifting competition involves three core lifts: Squat, bench press and deadlift.
Furthermore, he highlighted that international powerlifting competitions recognize individual medals for the highest weight lifted in each category, as well as the total weight lifted across all three categories.
Tan also stressed the importance of giving more attention to powerlifting in the Philippines.
“Simplicity of the movement,” he noted. Comparing it to other sports, he mentioned, “mas simple pero mas mahirap magbuild ng (it’s simpler yet more difficult to build a) personal record.”
He also emphasized that powerlifting embraces the idea that “strong is the new sexy” and that women take pride in their physical strength. Powerlifting is also “accommodating to the Pinoy physique.”
Since its inception in 2016, TheRack.Co has led the way in promoting and developing the culture of powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding, strongman, CrossFit, calisthenics and sports conditioning in the Philippines.
Recognizing that these disciplines are far more than second-thought categories relegated to the sidelines, TheRack.Co has worked tirelessly to accord these disciplines the respect and attention they deserve.
Buhat Buhat Basement leaves no stone unturned when it comes to accommodating the varied needs of its guests as it serves as a venue of discovery and interaction where lifters and non-lifters alike come together and build a strength training community in the Philippines.
“Our current goal is to make these sports more accessible, not only through purchasing equipment but also by offering accessible training facilities and organizing events,” Tan expressed.
Tan also encouraged support for powerlifting by engaging with their social media accounts and participating in their events and competitions.
Located in the heart of Metropolitan Manila, TheRack.Co is situated in a basement area, resembling a cave-like environment dedicated to catering to genuine enthusiasts.
“We firmly believe that we are not mainstream; our aim is to cater to the real enthusiasts,” Tan concluded.
With TheRack.Co leading the charge, powerlifting and other strength sports in the Philippines are poised for a bright future, gaining recognition and inspiring a new generation of athletes to use the power of strength as their craft.
