Finding the sweet spot between trendy and classic fashion

When the Singaporean womenswear brand The Editor’s Market entered the Philippines in October 2022, it became an instant hit among stylish yet smart dressers. That’s why from a limited four-month run at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, the pop-up shop soon emerged in three other malls: The Podium in Mandaluyong City, Glorietta 3 in Makati City and SM Aura Premier in Taguig City.

The retail space at The Podium eventually found a permanent home on the second floor to become The Editor’s Market Philippines’ flagship store. It officially opened last 11 December in an event attended by the brand’s fans who eagerly checked out the merchandise and openly appreciated the bigger store with more fitting rooms to use.

“It’s the sweet spot between trendy and classic,” said Robyn See, a co-founder and the chief marketing officer of the local franchise holder, when asked by DAILY TRIBUNE at the event why The Editor’s Market is so popular especially among the young, working and upwardly mobile women.

Indeed, as exemplified by See herself, the black jumpsuit she was wearing looked very fashionable yet quite functional. She pointed out that she could also wear the outfit at a lunch meeting and at a club for some night out on the same day without feeling off the cuff.

She then mentioned the Edelyn pants as her favorite piece of clothing, which she wears at least once a week as she has a pair of every color available. “You can wear it like super casual to a little bit formal. It’s really a clean pair of slacks. I’m not sure if it’s available here right now. But once it’s in stock, it gets sold out immediately.”

She offered some practical tips: “What I do is to get pieces that are very versatile, those you can take from day to night. I think that as long as you know the pieces that you can wear from the daytime to the nighttime, that’s a good investment for you to buy because you can wear it repeatedly in several occasions. For something plain, you can accessorize with a necklace, or a pair of earrings, or Carlyn bags that we just launched. It will really amplify your look.”

What to look forward to in 2024 at The Editor’s Market, See said, is “more sizing inclusivity.” Meaning, an extra, extra-large (XXL) size will be added to the current extra-small (XS) to extra-large (XL) range. There may be a burst of colors, too, depending on the seasons and even around the Pantone color of the year, which is peach fuzz.

While the franchisee doesn’t have “control over the designs that are brought here” from the franchisor in Singapore, See stated that she and rest of the owners have trust in the brand’s mother company, adding that “the main reason why we brought them in the Philippines is we know how amazing the pieces are.”
