English singer-songwriter and Grammy-winning artist Ed Sheeran made quite a comeback on the Philippine stage with his Mathematics Tour held Saturday night at the SMDC Festival Grounds.

“I’m so happy to be back… From rooms of no one to everyone here,” Sheeran said.

He performed the songs “Tides,” “Blow,” “I’m A Mess” and “Shivers” at the earlier part of the show.

As he was about to sing “The A Team,” Sheeran recalled performing it at pubs, though no one would pay attention to him that time.

“Until months later, people would show up to listen to me sing it. And now I get to perform it in venues like this,” he said.

Sheeran also recalled his 2015 show in Manila, calling the Filipino crowd the loudest for the Multiply Tour — and they proved it once again that night.

He then continued to serenade Filipino Sheerios, his fandom name, with hit songs including “Castle on the Hill,” “Don’t,” “No Diggity,” “Lego House,” “Eyes Closed,” “Give Me Love,” “Dive,” “American Town,” a mashup of collaborations with Justin Bieber and Camilla Cabello, “Overpass Graffiti,” “Galway Girl,” “Thinking Out Loud,” “Sing,” “Photograph,” “Tenerife Sea” and “Happier.”

To the delight of the audience, Sheeran brought onstage Paolo and Miguel Benjamin of Ben&Ben to sing their own hit song, “Maybe the Night.”

“It felt like a dream. Unreal,” Miguel said.

Sheeran engaged the concertgoers even more by giving instructions on how to sing along, from doing it softly to gradually increasing the volume to full blast.

He completed his set with “Perfect,” “Bloodstream,” “Afterglow,” “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You,” “Shape of You” and “Bad Habits.”

While closing the show, he promised to be back, saying “I won’t leave it at seven years next time.”
