Cultural show spotlights experiences, journeys of deaf graduates

Manghod, a fund-raising cultural show which features the experiences of Filipino Deaf college graduates, will premiere on 25 November, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s fifth-floor Augusto-Rosario Gonzalez Theater.

The performance follows the explorations of three deaf best friends who reunite for an adventure to different destinations. On their travels, they meet various individuals whom they shared their life experiences to give enlightenment and aspiration.

Spearheaded by Deaf choreographer and director Myra Medrana, it reveals the talents and skills of Silent Steps, the official Deaf performing arts group of the DLS-CSB School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS). They will be joined by guests from other organizations.

This serves as the culminating event of the 29th Deaf Festival, a week-long celebration at the Benilde campus of the creativity, inclusivity and accomplishments of the Deaf community.

The event was established and organized by deaf learners in November 1995, which coincides with the Deaf Awareness Week, declared through Proclamation No. 829 of the National Council on Disability Affairs.

Tickets are available at P200. Proceeds will benefit the Benilde SDEAS Deaf Scholars and other Deaf partners. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/SDEASDeafFestival.
