Art meets the eye at Gentle Monster Manila

The new Gentle Monster store in Shangri-La The Fort, BGC, is as immersive and massive as it gets.

Greeting visitors is “The Giant,” a striking 26-foot installation sitting atop a deconstructed architectural reinterpretation of Frederik Heyman’s 3D artwork. Not far is a one-eyed blinking monster and some other intricate art pieces that feed the eyes.

Gentle Monster Manila, which opened on 17 October, has over 200 pairs of eyewear that come in variety of designs, color and shapes.

The South Korean sunglasses and optical glasses brand founded by Hankook Kim in Seoul in 2011 has collaborated with the likes of Blackpink’s Jennie, Winner’s Song Mino, Jun Ji-hyun, rapper Kris Wu, Cai Xukun and Tilda Swinton.

In time for the Philippine flagship opening, Gentle Monster restocked its Maison Margiela collection. The exclusive line presents Gentle Monster’s original eyewear designs incorporating real threaded details of Maison Margiela’s stitch logo, embodying the brand’s value of uncompromised creativity and self-expression.

In an interview with Vogue, house ambassador Ahn Hyo-seop shared his must-try piece from the brand. He said, “The Musee sunglasses that I was wearing are perfect for everyday wear. Also, these frames from Gentle Monster’s optical line, EP, which actually haven’t been released yet, work well with any ‘fit. They will be launching early November! The details on these frames are remarkable and can definitely highlight any look.”
