The ebb and flow of compassion fatigue

Compassion fatigue, much like burnout, is very real and hard-hitting, especially for women.

Time Magazine describes compassion fatigue as the physical, emotional and psychological impacts of helping others. It is most often experienced by professionals tasked with supporting people through stress and trauma such as doctors or therapists.

In short, while burnout happens when you work too much, compassion fatigue happens when you care too much.

Common signs of compassion fatigue include physical exhaustion, increased apathy toward people or things you care about, feelings of helplessness, irritability and a tendency to isolate.

Here are the signs to look out for:

Drastic shift in mood

Withdrawal from social connection

Trouble being productive

Insomnia

Changes in appetite

A woman certainly can’t thrive when her mental health cup is running on empty, or in this case, is fatigued.

Glorietta’s campaign, “How She Blooms: A Tribute to Thriving Women,” aims to empower women with a plethora of caring, thoughtful and empowering activities, as well as retail surprises that are focused on helping women thrive in heart, body and mind.

As part of the initiatives, attendees can anticipate learning effective practices to identify and address the symptoms, providing insights on bouncing back from compassion fatigue.

Glorietta, together with leading mental health app and organization, Mind You, is hosting a free coffee and therapy group session with psychologist Rea Celine Villa on 16 March, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Palm Drive Activity Center. The session emphasizes the goal to reach and create a supportive and safe space for women.

In anticipation of a broad audience, Glorietta is offering 10-percent discount vouchers to 100 customers for sessions booked through the Mind You app. Drop by the Mind You wellness lounge at the Palm Drive Activity Center until 17 March and register both the Zing and Mind You apps to avail of the mental health sessions.

Physical and emotional health are also integral facets of a woman’s overall wellness. As such, Glorietta will have Pound workout sessions at 10 a.m. until 17 March.

For those seeking a creative outlet, Art Nook will host art sessions until 17 March between 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. In addition, a special workshop on Young Living essential oils will take place at 4 p.m.

A woman can thrive and bloom wherever she is planted, truly, and Glorietta hopes to help every woman flourish by nourishing her mind, heart and body.
