Utility glam

If workwear in the 1940s looked this good, no wonder luxury label Max Mara is bringing it back this season.

At the in-store launch of the Max Mara Spring Summer 2024 collection, stylish looks gave workwear a new attitude.

The brand’s “An Army of Women” collection, we are told, “pays homage to the 1940s English women, from the country and the city, from all social classes, who all joined up to work the land shoulder to shoulder and nourish the nation.”

Neutrals from beige and khaki to black and white, with splashes of crimson and purple make up a collection of lust-worthy pieces that include demure midi dresses, silky blouses and wide-leg trousers.

Outstanding pieces are a cream oversized vest with black tassel and brass button details, and a cream dress in a textured fabric with puff sleeves, which young ladies would undoubtedly love to wear with the mini bags and flats in the new, light and airy collection.

As the brand describes, “Siren suits and other workwear classics are the inspiration for Max Mara’s utility glamor, featuring pockets and pouches capacious enough for a potting trowel, tough reinforced stitching and sturdy suspenders.”

Visit the Greenbelt 3 store to view these pieces, although these have been flying off the racks, as we saw for ourselves.
