For the fifth consecutive year, The Weeknd has been chosen to provide the theme song for this year’s Wrestlemania.
The WWE announced on X (formerly Twitter) on 28 January that “Gasoline” by The Weeknd will be used for Wrestlemania 40 — marking the fifth time the Canadian singer-songwriter was tapped for the event, a feat no other artist has achieved in WWE history.
“Gasoline” is part of the Dawn FM album released in 2022. Additionally, it was Abel’s fifth studio album.
The song currently has at least 7.7 million views on YouTube.
Some fans, though, were divided on the announcement.
“I like The Weeknd. But we need some rock for Mania for once. His music is way too chill for a show meant to be this hype,” complained one.
The Starboy-hitmaker started his streak in 2020 when his “Blinding Lights” was tapped for Wrestlemania 36. This was followed by “Save Your Tears” for Wrestlemania 37, “Sacrifice” for Wrestlemania 38, and last year, for Wrestlemania 39, “Less Than Zero.”
Wrestlemania XL, the most significant event in the world of professional wrestling, will take place in Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on 6-7 April.
