The De La Salle Taft Grade School Class of 1984 are preparing for their upcoming anniversary homecoming dubbed “The Last Batch of Taft” on 23 March. It has been 40 years since their graduation at the Marian Quadrangle of the DLSU campus and everyone is looking forward to reminiscing about their growing up years in Taft.
In a recent breakfast meeting, the boys of DLSGS discussed the details of the forthcoming homecoming. Present were Robert Ramos, chief finance officer of Max’s Group, Inc.; Basti Lacson, president and chief executive officer of Prime BMD; Gilbert Remulla, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation board director; RV Basco, artist and art patron; Toti Palileo, community leader turned toll road manager and DLSGS ‘84 homecoming chairman; and ‘90s matinee idol-turned-interior designer Robin da Roza.
As part of its celebration, the batch ’84 recently held an outreach project, called Gabay ng Lasalliano, for the street children of the community behind the DLSU campus in Leveriza, Malate.
On 16 March, the group will dedicate another Saturday morning to be with 120 street children, symbolizing the 120 grade school graduates of DLSU in 1984. This effort is in cooperation with Barangay 720, Zone 78, District 5 of Manila and the Kuya Center for Street Children.
“It’s going to be one rare of a homecoming, with some classmates seeing each other for the first time since 1984. The last major homecoming of the batch was in 2009 and several attendees then, from our classmates to the faculty, are no longer with us. Even more the homecoming volunteers are inspired to organize this and celebrate the memories of our good old days,” said Palileo.
