Sparkle without splurging

CAREFREE luxury style by Mikana.

Since Mikana successful launched its fashion jewelry business on e-commerce platforms in 2019, the “Japanese-inspired” brand owned by Filipino entrepreneurs has expanded its product line to bags, wallets, perfume and footwear. It also recently opened a physical store located on the lower ground floor of Festival Mall in Muntinlupa City.

“The concept is about showing Mikana for brand identity, to show who is Mikana. Gusto lang namin i-showcase na si Mikana is elegant looking, pero very affordable (We just want to showcase that Mikana is elegant looking yet very affordable). What we really want is to create a carefree luxury,” marketing and brand manager Charmaine P. Agustin told DAILY TRIBUNE and an online publication at the store’s opening.

With products’ prices going for as low as P119, the brand is a hit among its target clientele made up of Gen Zs and young professionals “na gustong maging mukhang” (who want to look) classy with their trendy and “Instagrammable” fashion items. One such item is the P299 piece of jewelry that became a trending topic on social media a few seasons back and the top-selling product across shopping sites for many days.

“Para s’ya talagang (It’s like a real) diamond ring,” Agustin said of Mikana’s all-time bestseller. “Sobrang ganda (It’s so beautiful), parang totoong (it’s like real) gold. We’re using Zirconian stone, kaya talagang makinang (that’s why it’s shiny).” It’s also hypoallergenic, she added, just like the rest of the jewelry items.

The brand’s commitment to offer good quality products at affordable prices continues in its new lines, that’s why the bags, in particular, are likewise selling well. In the future, it may introduce a clothing line, but, as Agustin pointed out, the focus now is to release more designs of the existing product lines. It also looks into opening more physical stores in different cities.

Guests at the opening of Mikana’s first store at Festival Mall got first dibs on its latest collection that were on display and then modeled in a fashion show. The highlight was the debut of its footwear line, from chic heels to classy flats, that likewise embodies the carefree luxury philosophy of the brand.
