K-pop groups from HYBE brought home a hefty haul from the 2023 MAMA Awards, held for two nights on 28-29 November.

The sensational 13-member group SEVENTEEN emerged as the top winner with five awards: Album of the Year for the critically acclaimed EP “FML,” Best Male Group, Best Dance Performance Male Group with “Super,” Worldwide Fans’ Choice and the “bibigo culture & style” award.

Meanwhile, girl group NewJeans bagged the prized Artist of the Year award and Song of the Year award with “Ditto.” It also won the Best Female Group and Best Dance Performance awards for a female group.

Twice is the only K-pop girl group to win the fan-voted accolade “Worldwide Icon of the Year” for 2023, joining previous winners such as SEVENTEEN, ATEEZ, Enhypen, Lim Young-woong, NCT Dream, Stray Kids, TXT and ZEROBASEONE.

Despite the phenomenal K-pop group BTS’ temporary break due to the members’ military enlistment, Jimin and Jungkook still made their marks as soloists. Jimin won Best Male Artist while Jungkook won Best Collaboration and Best Dane Performance (Male Solo) with the chart-topping hit “Seven (feat. Latto) – Clean Version.”

BTS remains the top artist with the most number of Daesangs (grand prizes) — 21 awards from 2016 until 2023.

The MAMA Awards is a major awards ceremony by entertainment company CJ E&M. Since its inception in 1999, it has annually recognized rising and top K-pop artists in the fiercely competitive industry.
