The P-pop Kings once again asserted their lofty place in the local music scene when SB19 led the winners of the 9th Wish Music Awards last Sunday, 14 January, held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The boy band was hailed as the Wish Group of the Year, besting Lola Amour, Muni-Muni and The Juans, all nominated in the Wish Group of the Year category.

Additionally, multiple songs of the group emerged victorious in their respective categories.

“Gento” was awarded the Wishclusive Pop Performance of the Year. As of writing, the track has garnered 9.7 million views on the Wish YouTube channel, and 34.5 million streams on Spotify.

The hit song “I Want You” was adjudged the Wishclusive R&B Performance of the Year.

SB19 has consistently been nominated for various categories in different award-giving bodies.

During last year’s Asia Artist Awards, SB19 joined Korean big names as winners in the Best Music Award and Hot Trend Award.

Even in individual categories, SB19 members dominated the proceedings.

Josh Cullen, the group’s lead rapper, was awarded Wish Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Wisher’s Choice Award, while the Wishclusive Hip-Hop Performance of the Year went to ‘Rockstar’ of Felip/Ken, the group’s vocalist and principal dancer.

The Philippines “Concert King” Martin Nievera was given the Music Excellence Award for his decades-long career as one of the country’s most successful and enduring music artists.

Wish Music Awards also collaborated with Spotify for specific awards like the Spotify Kalye Song of the Year to credit Filipino artists on the platform.

The artists and performances were nominated from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023.

Flow G, rap star

Meanwhile, Flow G’s hit rap song “Rapstar” emerged as the Wish Hip-hop Song of the Year. The song currently has 57.4 million streams on Spotify.

The rapper was also hailed as the Spotify Artist of the Year and the Wish Artist of the Year.

Before this, Flow G won the 2020 Wishclusive Hip-hop Performance of the Year with the song “Pauwi Nako” and the 2022 Wish Hip-hop Song of the Year with “Ibong Adarna,” where he collaborated with another award-winning artist, Gloc 9.
