Marina Summers, the lone Filipina candidate in RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs The World season 2, recently won the first challenge and the Lip Sync for the World competition during the show’s first episode.
Main host and judge RuPaul announced the good news during the show’s episode on 9 February.
“Marina Summers, you’re a winner baby!” RuPaul declared.
Summers made an unforgettable impression with her metallic Katipunera-inspired outfit on the runway.
In an Instagram post, the Drag Queen also shows off a metallic terno for the international drag audience.
“I’m back to defend the MOTHERLAND,” she said. “I’m beaming with pride as I sail the oceans representing the Philippine flag for my return to the Drag Race Main Stage.”
“From the Pearl of the Orient Seas to the WORLD! Simulan na ang himagsikan! Time to put these colonizers on the chopping block,” she added.
Summers was described as “polished from head to toe,” a “powerhouse” and “one to watch out for” by fellow drag stars as she graced the international runway in a custom Philippine terno in bronze sequins and gold chainmail by fashion designer Jude Macasinag.
The 27-year-old drag performer represents the Philippines and Southeast Asia in the second season of the acclaimed hit series.
“As I step into foreign land, this is my battlecry — where I plant my flag, my pride, and my joy. The battle has just begun, are you with me?” she captioned another Instagram post.
She competes with other drag superstars like Choriza May, Gothy Kendall, Jonbers Blonde and Tia Kofi from the United Kingdom, La Grande Dame from Drag Race France, Arantxa Castilla La Mancha from Drag Race España, Hannah Conda from Australia, Keta Minaj from Drag Race Holland and Mayhem Miller and Scarlet Envy of Drag Race US.
Summers was a runner-up to Precious Paula Nicole in the first-ever season of Drag Race Philippines in 2022.
More than a year later, Summers is the first Pinay drag superstar to compete in the international edition of the award-winning reality show.
