Global superstars RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook of K-pop mega-group BTS are in the process of preparing for their mandatory South Korean military service.
BigHit Music, the group’s record label, announced on 5 December that the four remaining members would enlist and have provided follow-up information about their upcoming enlistment.
“RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are enlisting as active-duty soldiers in the Army to fulfill their military service obligations,” BigHit wrote in a statement posted on WeVerse.
According to the statement, RM and V are scheduled to enlist according to their own procedures, while Jimin and Jungkook will enlist together. As of writing, the record label has not released their exact enlistment date.
With this, the label asked the fans for continued support for the group, though with a caveat: No visits to the camp.
“To prevent any issues that might occur from crowding, fans are advised to refrain from visiting the site. Please convey your warm regards and encouragement in your hearts only,” the label said.
“We ask for your continued love and support for RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook until they complete their military service and return. Our company will also strive to provide all the support they need during this time,” the label added.
In 2022, BTS announced they would begin a hiatus until 2025 in favor of their solo careers and each member’s time for military service.
The members were previously granted two-year extensions by the South Korean government and were also considered for a special exemption given to athletes and artists who have promoted “national prestige.”
Despite the grants, BigHit confirmed that the group would not seek any delays or special exemptions and would fulfill their military service.
The first member to enlist in the group was Jin, who started his service in December 2022 and is expected to finish around the month of June 2024.J-hope followed in April, and Suga in September.
The members have renewed their contracts with BigHit and are expected to reunite in 2025 after all members have completed their service.
