Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s break-up after an 11-year-old relationship might go down as one of the most unforgettable and saddest moments in Philippine entertainment history.
With fellow celebrities and local artists sharing their reactions, multi-award-winning actress Nadine Lustre, who also came from a popular love team with former boyfriend James Reid, also shared her sentiment. In a televised interview on 1 December, Lustre commented briefly on Bernardo and Padilla’s break-up.
“I can’t really say so much about it because I’m not super close with them, so I don’t think I’m able to comment anything, pero matagal din ‘yung 11 years,” she said.
However, the actress positively commented on how the industry norms have been changing, specifically on professionalizing love teams.
“I think that’s how it should be naman, but I understand din naman why sometimes the management would kind of force it… for business reasons,” she said.
“I’m happy because now the showbiz industry is changing, it’s not the same as before na pag love team kayo, dapat kayo. Ngayon, I guess everyone is more understanding and everyone is more professional. I think it should be like that,” she added.
The Deleter actress also expressed her gratitude towards her fans who have been understanding and accepting, especially now that she is in a relationship with French business Christophe Bariou.
“I’m very lucky because there are fans who were understanding of that even when I started dating ulit. There were fans na very supportive. I understood that there were fans na parang heartbroken, there were fans that were mad, which is totally understandable because they were with you that whole journey. Even though they don’t know you personally, nakaka-sad din naman,” she said.
Lustre and Reid’s popularity as a loveteam skyrocketed when they teamed up in the popular 2014 romantic-comedy film Diary ng Panget, which also led to more projects together and the blossoming of a romantic relationship.
However, after a magical reel-to-real-life romantic relationship, the two confirmed their separation in a joint statement released on a live episode of Tonight with Boy Abunda.
The 30-year-old actress has now cemented her name in the music and film industry. After the success of her individual film projects Ulan, Greed, and Deleter, the actress reaped the fruits of her labor as she garnered multiple awards, including four FAMAS awards, three Metro Manila Film Festival awards, a Gawad Urian award, and more.
She is currently headlining the new thriller series Roadkillers on Prime Video.
