Levens Hall, an Elizabethan stately home near Kendal in northwest England, will host the “World Topiary Day” as a celebration of the art of topiary on 14 May 2023.
Head gardener Chris Crowder led the preparation of the world’s oldest topiary garden on the grounds of Levens Hall on Friday.
Topiary is the centuries-old skill of shaping and cutting small-leaved trees and bushes into geometric shapes or forms which resemble objects and people.
Levens Hall’s topiary garden, comprising the ancient box and yew trees, was designed by Monsieur Guillaume Beaumont and established in 1694.
