The noontime show It’s Showtime will continue to air on television despite the denial by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board of the Motion for Reconsideration filed by media giants ABS-CBN Corporation and GMA Network, Inc.
On 28 September, MTRCB released a statement reiterating that the noontime show violated Section 3 (c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.
“Said MRs sought relief from the Board’s ruling dated August 17, 2023, regarding the July 25, 2023 episode of the live noontime television program It’s Showtime! Specifically, during the show’s Isip Bata segment, in which hosts Ryan Bang, Vice Ganda and Ion Perez allegedly acted indecently or inappropriately in the presence of children, which is alleged to have violated Chapter IV Section 2 (b) (1) of the 2004 Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Presidential Decree No. 1986.”
The statement reaffirmed the board committee’s decision to suspend the show for 12 days.
Early this month, the MTRCB suspended the noontime program, a decision it said it arrived at following multiple complaints received from viewers over the show’s 25 July Isip Bata’segment.
In the said episode, hosts and celebrity couple Vice Ganda and Ion Perez displayed affection toward each other. However, the sweet gesture by the couple was deemed “inappropriate” and “indecent” by a number of viewers.
The MTRCB notified the noontime live program’s producers on 31 July to appear before the body and explain the real-life couple’s conduct.
Following the MTRCB’s decision, ABS-CBN released a statement saying the show was “currently exploring all our remedies and options.”
“In the meantime, since the imposed suspension is not yet final and executory, we would like to reassure our audiences that It’s Showtime will continue to be seen on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z and GTV. It is also available on Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC and TFC,” the statement said.
The company also remained firm in its stand that the show did not violate any pertinent law, adding: “We are truly grateful for the unwavering love and support that we have received from our viewers. We remain committed to bringing joy and inspiration to our beloved madlang people.”
With MTRCB’s denial of the motions for reconsideration, ABS-CBN and GMA may file an appeal with the Office of the President within the next 15 days.
