In a casting coup, some of the biggest and brightest Kapuso stars are working together on a big project.
GMA’s new historical-action drama Pulang Araw will be topbilled by Alden Richards, Sanya Lopez, Barbie Forteza and David Licauco.
Forteza, in a recent interview, said that viewers who enjoyed watching the hit historical-fantasy drama Maria Clara at Ibarra would also enjoy Pulang Araw since the production intends to work closely with historians and war survivors to make the show, about World War II in the Philippines, as realistic and authentic as possible.
“Coming from Maria Clara at Ibarra na parang we really left a mark… and really gave a big impact in terms of Philippine history… Now, mas mae-embrace natin ang pagbabalik-tanaw sa ating history,” said Forteza.
Directed by Dominic Zapata, who is behind blockbuster dramas such as Mars Ravelo’s Darna (2009-2010), My Husband’s Lover (2013) and The Rich Man’s Daughter (2015), the historical series will delve into the country’s experiences under the Japanese Occupation, with Suzette Doctolero as the show’s head writer.
Apart from Richards, Lopez, Forteza and Licauco, the show will also feature Rhian Ramos, Rochelle Pangilinan, Epy Quizon, Angelu de Leon, Ashley Ortega, Mikoy Morales and Aidan Veneracion.
Pulang Araw will premiere in 2024.
