From its humble beginnings in El Nido, Palawan, Trattoria Altrov’e has captured the hearts and palates of both international and local visitors. Over the past decade, the Italian restaurant has expanded its reach, opening branches in Coron, Siargao as well as Moalbal and serving pizza, pasta, and homemade gelato.
The story begins with Martin Lange and Sandy Dimaya, a couple who share a passion for traditions, cultures and culinary delights.
Martin and Sandy, both avid travelers, crossed paths in France back in 2004. They discovered their shared love for exploring new flavors and experiencing different cuisines. It was during one of Sandy’s visits to Martin in Slovenia in 2005 that she stumbled upon the best pizza she had ever tasted. The pizza left a lasting impression on her, and together, they dreamt of bringing that exceptional pizza experience to the Philippines.
In 2005, Martin and Sandy made the decision to settle in the Philippines. Before embarking on their culinary venture, Martin sought guidance from his friends who owned a pizzeria in Ljubljana. He trained tirelessly to master the art of pizza making, ensuring that he could recreate the flavors that had captivated Sandy.
In 2006, armed with their newfound knowledge and a burning passion, Martin and Sandy built a firewood brick oven in their backyard. They spent three years experimenting with dough recipes, sourcing the finest ingredients and perfecting their craft. Their dedication and perseverance paid off when they finally felt confident that their pizza was nothing short of perfection.
With their hearts set on sharing their creation with the world, Martin and Sandy opened Trattoria Altrov’é in El Nido, Palawan. The name Trattoria, meaning “family-run restaurant,” reflected their vision of creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for their guests. Altrov’é, meaning “something different” or “elsewhere,” represented their commitment to offering a unique dining experience.
Word spread about the exceptional quality of their pizza, and people started lining up for hours just to savor a slice. Encouraged by their success, Martin and Sandy expanded their business to other popular tourist destinations like Corong-corong El Nido, Coron, Moalboal, Siargao, Hundred Islands, San Jose Tarlac, Caliraya and Anilao. Each new branch proved to be a triumph, solidifying Trattoria Altrov’é as a must-visit culinary gem in the Philippines.
Now, Altrov’e has arrived in the bustling city of Makati (G/F Armstrong Building, H.V. Dela Costa St., Salcedo Village), bringing with it the same commitment to exceptional cuisine and warm hospitality. While the restaurant preserves its renowned culinary masterpieces, it has also embraced a modern interior design, featuring a nature-inspired white minimalist aesthetic that exudes good vibes.
Soon, the restaurant will also open in Angeles, Pampanga, and Quezon City.
