All speculations regarding BLACKPINK’s potential exit from its management company have been officially put to rest as K-pop’s reigning queens have extended their contract with YG Entertainment.
YG Entertainment confirmed on Wednesday, 6 December that all four members of BLACKPINK renewed their contracts with the label “after careful discussions” and “based on deep trust,” according to Korean news source Soompi.
Yang Hyun Suk, YG Entertainment’s executive producer, welcomed the development, stating, ”BLACKPINK will continue to do their best to shine even brighter in the global music market as artists representing not only our agency but also K-pop, and we send our unwavering support and faith for their future steps.”
Fans can thus anticipate more electric performances and chart-topping hits from the globally influential girl group.
BLACKPINK recently notched a new record when the “Kill This Love” music video logged an astounding 1.9 billion views on YouTube.
Currently ranked as the group’s second most-watched music video, “Kill This Love” is only the third K-pop music video to achieve the milestone overall (the first being PSY’s “Gangnam Style”), trailing closely behind the record-breaking 2.1 billion views for another one of their tracks, “Ddu-ddu-ddu.”
With over 90 million followers, BLACKPINK’s music channel on YouTube is also currently the most viewed, breaking a Guinness record earlier this year.
And they’re making waves not just in music. In recognition of their efforts to increase public awareness about climate change, Britain’s King Charles III bestowed honors on BLACKPINK last month.
After launching their worldwide Born Pink World Tour in October 2022, the group performed more than 60 shows all over the world before calling it a night last September.
