‘Barbienheimer,’ ‘Succession’ top Golden Globes nominations

The nominations for the 81st Golden Globes are out.

Barbie, a fantasy comedy film on the famous Mattel dolls, leads the pack with nine nominations including Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for Margot Robbie, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for Ryan Gosling, Best Director — Motion Picture for Greta Gerwig and Best Screenplay — Motion Picture.

Its soundtracks, “Dance the Night” by Due Lipa, “I’m Just Ken” by Mark Ronson and “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish, are up for Best Original Song — Motion Picture.

In the TV category, HBO’s Succession tops with nominations for Best Television Series — Drama, Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama for Sara Snook, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series — Drama for Brian Cox, Kiera Culkin and Jeremy Strong, Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for J. Smith-Cameron, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård and Matthew Macfadyen.

Oppenheimer has eight nods including Best Motion Picture — Drama, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Best Performance By A Male Actor in a Motion Picture for Cillian Murphy, Best Performance By A Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for Emily Blunt, Best Performance By A Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for Robert Downey Jr., Best Director — Motion for Christopher Nolan, and Best Original Score — Motion Picture.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on 7 January 2024 at the Beverly Hilton. It will air live on CBS and Paramount+.
