3-time Tony Awards winner Hinton Battle dies at 67

Broadway legend Hinton Battle passed away at age 67, his choreographer friend Debbie Allen announced on social media on Tuesday, 29 January 2024.

“Today I honor Hinton Battle, my dear friend who left us to dance and sing in God’s Ensemble last night. He fought this battle to live and be creative impacting audiences and young people across the globe,” Allen wrote on Instagram.

Battle won three Tony Awards, all in the category of Featured Actor in a Musical, for his performances in “Miss Saigon”, “Sophisticated Ladies”, and “The Tap Dance Kid”. Moreover, he was the first to portray the Scarecrow in the stage version of “The Wiz”.
