‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Poor Things’ top 2024 BAFTA nominations

Oppenheimer is nominated in 13 categories heading into the 2024 BAFTA Awards (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) in the United Kingdom.

Among the 13 nominations for the Cillian Murphy-led film are Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay and more.

Oppenheimer’s director, Christopher Nolan, hasn’t won any BAFTA awards.

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. are all nominated — for Leading Actor, Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor, respectively.

Even in the technicals, Oppenheimer set the bar high with nods for Original Score, Cinematography, Editing and Production Design categories. The film bagged the Best Screenplay award during the recent Golden Globes Awards.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Margaret Qualley, also snagged major nominations — Adapted Screenplay, Leading Actress (Stone), Original Score, Cinematography, Best Film and Outstanding British Film.

In 2017, Stone won the BAFTA for Best Film Actress in a Leading Role for the movie La La Land. Ruffalo, meanwhile, has been nominated three times in the BAFTA.

As for Barbie, the Greta Gerwig film has been nominated in five categories, including Original Screenplay and Production and Costume Design. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are contenders in the Leading Actress and Supporting Actor categories.

This year’s BAFTA Awards will take place on 18 February and will be hosted by Scottish actor David Tennant.
