Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly De Leon’s ‘A Very Good Girl’ dominates Netflix

For those who missed watching the film in theaters during its run,
award-winning actress Kathryn Bernardo and Golden Globe nominee Dolly de Leon’s blockbuster film “A Very Good Girl” is now available on Netflix.

On 27 December, Star Cinema promoted the film on its social media account.

“The biggest joint slayage of the year continues on Netflix!” Star Cinema said. “Watch Asia’s Box Office Superstar Kathryn Bernardo and BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Dolly de Leon in #AVeryGoodGirl — NOW STREAMING ON NETFLIX!”

As of writing, the black comedy has topped the “Top 10 Movies in the Philippines Today” list on the streaming platform. The hashtag #AVeryGoodGirl also trended on X (formerly Twitter) following the film’s Netflix debut.

A Very Good Girl was released nationwide in theaters on 27 September. Directed by Petersen Vargas, the film follows Philo (portrayed by Bernardo), a girl dead-set on taking revenge against Molly (portrayed by De Leon), a powerful business mogul she blames for the setbacks in her life.

The cast also includes Chie Filomeno, Jake Ejercito, Donna Cariaga, Kaori Oinuma and more.

Earning over P100 million at the box office during its theatrical release, the film is now one of the highest-grossing local films of 2023.

In September, Bernardo wrote on Instagram: “100 million?!!! You have no idea how much this gives us hope for the Philippine cinema. Thank you so much for all your love and support!”

The film marked Bernardo’s return to the big screen after four years. Meanwhile, it was one of De Leon’s string of successful movies in 2023, following The Missing (Iti Mapukpukaw) and Keys to the Heart.

With the success of the film, Bernardo once again cemented her title as the country’s “Box Office Queen,” following the blockbuster hits She’s Dating the Gangster (2014), Barcelona: A Love Untold (2019), The Hows of Us (2018) and Hello, Love, Goodbye (2019).
