Jewelry collectors who were fortunate to be invited to the exclusive trunk show of the Cebu-based Vero Jewellery shop also got to see “a collection of different emotions” yesterday 12 October at the Manila House Private Club in Bonifacio Global City.
“Like telling a story,” Vero founder and owner G Young told DAILY TRIBUNE in an interview two days ahead of the event titled Meet Me Thursday.
“It’s about realizations of life. You don’t have to wait for the weekend to have coffee with friends, to enjoy, to travel. Hence Meet Me Thursday.”
Young conveyed her message through her new collection of jewelry consisting of premium and one-of-a-kind pieces with a few classics and some things for everyday wear, plus a portion for sterling silver that’s “very artisanal also.” The latter set was considered “entry-level” and had affordable price tags ranging from P6,000 (rings) to P20,000 (earrings with gemstones).
The Cebuana jeweler, who’s been into designing and The Cebuana jeweler, who’s been into designing and manufacturing for nearly 20 years, proudly said all pieces are genuine — or “vero” in the Italian language. But, no, she doesn’t source her gems from Italy. “I just like that word. It’s short and simple, easy to remember and doesn’t overshadow the jewelry.”
Young professed to be biased to gemstones among other materials that make a jewelry. Gemstones could get more expensive than, say, diamonds “depending on the cut, size, availability.” They can also be mixed with diamonds and other gems.
“You don’t have to stick to just one gemstone,” she pointed out, even if you believe in sticking to your birthstone. She’s a Leo, for instance, and her birthstone is supposedly peridot, but she admits to not being fond of it. Instead, she loves tourmalines for their subtlety and variety in colors, such as green, pink, yellow and blue. She’s also partial to sapphire and spinel gemstones.
That’s why when Young’s clients ask her to make custom-made pieces for them, she naturally gravitates towards those gemstones and mixed with other varieties. She exclaimed, “The pieces I make for my clients, it makes me very happy. I’m so in love with it, pure joy. I’m happy that I’m able to express my thoughts, emotions. The passion is so strong. Iba talaga (It’s different) if you love what you’re doing.”
